Catamount Wellness Ambassadors at the Health and Wellness Fair

Wellness Promotion

Wellness Promotion supports the wellbeing of WCU's campus community through creative programming, engaging trainings, and community-building events. Our goal is to educate students on the importance of tending to their overall wellbeing and connect them to the many resources available to support their wellness.

Throughout the year, our office supports community wellness through campus-wide events based on the elements of wellness framework. The first of these is our annual Health and Wellness Fair, which educates students about on-campus wellness resources at the start of each academic year. Wellness Promotion also oversees several "wellness weeks" throughout the year, involving programs centered around a specific theme, including Alcohol Awareness Week, Take Care Week, and Every Body Week.

Find out more about these programs on WCU Engage.
Catamount Wellness Ambassadors (CWAs) are student leaders who promote health and wellbeing on campus. CWAs assist Wellness Promotion with the planning, promotion, and implementation of programs, initiatives, and events. They promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage students to adopt healthy behaviors. CWAs are trained in Mental Health First Aid and certified as Peer Health Educators. They gain extensive knowledge in health and wellness topics and develop leadership skills through public speaking and program planning.

BASICS is an evidence-based program that is designed to help college students assess their alcohol-related decisions.

The BASICS program uses a harm-reduction approach designed to:

  • Help you explore your alcohol use in a non-judgmental setting
  • Reduce risky behavior and harmful consequences of alcohol abuse
  • Identify changes that could help you reduce your risk
