Mission and Overarching Goals
WCU Global is the main hub of international engagement at Western Carlina University. The Office of Global Engagement provides leadership and advocacy for students and scholars through international programs and activities on campus and the surrounding community, promotes study and internship abroad opportunities, and coordinates global resources for the campus community.
We work with students, faculty, and staff on campus, in Western North Carolina, and around the world to:
Global Learning
- Provide international learning opportunities to develop globally engaged, interculturally-competent students
- Develop and coordinate WCU’s short-term, summer, semester and year-long study abroad programs
International Students and Scholars
- Welcome international students and scholars to the campus and local community
- Provide immigration services and transitional support for international students and scholars
- Oversee international enrollment management (e.g., recruitment, admissions, marketing, etc.)
Faculty and Staff Development
- Support global teaching and learning
- Develop and provide international development opportunities for faculty and staff
International Partnerships
- Develop and facilitate international, intstitutional partnerships in support of WCU’s overall Strategic Plan
Community Engagement
- Increase cross-cultural understanding through outreach programs on-campus and throughout the regional community
