WCU's Cherokee Studies program allows students to study at the heart of the spiritual
and cultural homeland of the regions' largest Native American population, the Eastern
Band of Cherokee Indians. The Master of Arts in History with a concentration in Cherokee
Studies gives students a unique opportunity to study the historical and contemporary
experience of the EBCI.
WCU's Graduate Programs in Cherokee Studies offers a number of opportunities to students
interested in furthering their education, expanding their intercultural skills and
enhancing their culturally-oriented professional knowledge. Our partnership with the
Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians gives students a unique chance to study with the
region's largest Native American population. The program requires coursework in both American history and Cherokee Studies.

Student work or study co-operatives are available to undergraduate students through
Western's Cherokee Center and external organizations within the Native American community.
Our Cullowhee, North Carolina campus is at the heart of the spiritual and cultural

Indians. Uniquely located amidst rich cultural and academic resources, our interdisciplinary
program enables students to study at the source. In partnership with the Cherokee
community, we offer students and scholars a wide range of academic and support services.
Western Carolina offers both graduate and undergraduate programs in Cherokee Studies.
In addition, Western Carolina offers several scholarships for Native American students
and non-native students pursuing a degree in Cherokee Studies. Cherokee Studies students
and visiting scholars will have at their disposal one of the largest collections of
Cherokee related materials anywhere.
The Cherokee Language Revitalization Project is a decade-long partnership between
the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµapp, funded by the
Cherokee Preservation Foundation, dedicated to revitalizing the Cherokee language
and culture through community, education, and resource development.
Support efforts to advance Cherokee and Indigenous Studies at Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµapp
through academic programming, scholarships, and community engagement.
