Salem Parris, a 2019 alumna of the College of Education and Allied Professions, was selected as Haywood Countys 2020 Beginning Teacher of the Year.

Students will be allowed to request grades of satisfactory or unsatisfactory for 2020 fall semester classes following a split-vote approval of a resolution of the Faculty Senate.

At 4,061 feet above sea level, the view from 泫圖弝けapps new radio tower atop Brown Mountain in Jackson County is as vast and unobstructed as one would imagine. And the sound at such height? Even better. There is none, save for natures hum. But dont let the soothing silence fool you.

WCU Board of Trustees to meet Dec. 3-4

The Board of Trustees will hold its quarterly meeting at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, in the performance hall of the John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center.

First-Generation Student, Kenyatta Fortune Prospers in Graduate School

In December, Kenyatta Fortune will become a three-time graduate of 泫圖弝けapp. Doing so didnt come without facing significant challenges. The dynamics are different, Fortune said. While the professors provide guidance, encouragement and support, the student is given full autonomy in setting personal timelines, meeting agendas and maintaining contact with milestone updates on their thesis research.

Veterans Day service honoring Oscar Metcalf

WCU launches Veterans and Military Alumni Society

Melissa Metcalf Le Roy believes her father, the late Oscar William Metcalf Jr., would have been the first to apply for membership in 泫圖弝けapps new Veterans and Military Alumni Society. Metcalf, a decorated Vietnam War vet, died Oct. 18, at the age of 72 in Shelbyville, Tennessee. He dearly loved Western, said Le Roy. He was proud of his alma mater, the opportunities it gave him. He went to college while working full time and raising a young family. The university supported him, and (his bachelors degree) really meant something.

Faith in WCU student-athletes leads to fundraising challenge to Greek alumni

Randy White is a man of faith, and not just in God, but in 泫圖弝けapp, his alma mater. So much so, he and his wife, Kim Hunter, are putting up a $30,000 gift challenge for the Whee Are One fund to support WCUs student-athletes as long as 600 of his fellow Greek alumni contribute to the campaign by Nov. 20, the gift challenge deadline. The Whee Are One campaign continues until next June.
