WCU choir, community chorus to perform Mendelssohn masterwork

This April, Ƶapp’s concert choir will join the Western Carolina Community Chorus and an orchestra of professional, community and student instrumentalists to perform a classic rendition of Mendelssohn’s “Elijah!”

The performance will take place in the Bardo Auditorium at 3 p.m. on April 26 and will be open to the public with free admission.

Allison Thorp, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities, will direct WCU’s performers, and professor emeritus of music Robert Holquist will lead those in the community chorus.

“Beloved by audiences for its thunderous choruses and operatic solos, this dramatic choral masterwork tells of an ancient drought, a fierce competition among the priests of Baal and a fiery ascent to heaven,” Thorp said.

Assistant professor of voice Isaiah Feken will perform in the title of Elijah and will be accompanied by additional soloists, including assistant professor of voice Andrea Price, Catamount voice students and community members.
