WCU staff member volunteers with Olympics

Catamounts go far and wide to help their community, and 甜瓜视频app鈥檚 associate director of student conduct Lindsay Griswold boldly demonstrated that fact this February.

Using the 24 hours of community service leave allotted to her as an employee of WCU, Griswold traveled all the way to Milan to volunteer with the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee official Team USA Welcome Experience.

Over a whirlwind few days, she joined a small army of other volunteers, each who had interviewed for their spot, to greet teams of Olympians as they took the final few steps toward their hard work鈥檚 culmination.

鈥淚 greeted athletes upon their arrival, helped them get zipped into their jackets for their Getty Images headshots, moved a ton of ski equipment, transported Ralph Lauren garment bags with athletes' Opening and Closing Ceremony uniforms, my goodness they were heavy, and of course, took a moment to celebrate our shared Catamount pride at the NCAA College Corner,鈥 Griswold said.

Her experience in Milan continued an already lengthy career of service.

Griswold is a two-time civil servant and a licensed social worker, with a wealth of stories from years spent between community-building organizations like AmeriCorps, the Peace Corps and Rotary International.

In her last professional chapter before coming to WCU in August 2025, Griswold was actually a member of the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee鈥檚 Athlete Safety Team. In volunteering at the ceremony, she connected with a community she had helped care for before and shared with new peers what grand experiences are possible with dedication and a giving attitude.

Griswold had these words for her peers: 鈥淲hat an awesome celebration for the Team USA athletes who have pushed their minds, bodies and souls in so many ways to represent our nation through sport. I truly believe the Olympic and Paralympic Games are one of the last international peacebuilding events we have left in this wild world. How fun to serve a small part of it. Go Team USA! Go Cats!鈥
