A Non Work-Study student worker must be enrolled for classes for a current or upcoming term according to minimum registered credit hours as a half time student (See table below). The credit hours identified qualifies the student for the FICA tax exemption with respect to services performed for an institution of higher education. Students will immediately become ineligible to work as Non Work-Study workers if they drop below the required number of credit hours. In addition, students must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA to work on campus. Employing departments may choose to increase the required GPA as necessary. Any exception to the eligibility criteria must be approved by the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Studies. - Ensure you have the following:
- Documentation to complete your (authorization to work in the U.S.)
- A U.S. bank account for direct deposit purposes
- Graduate students may be eligible to receive a teaching or research assistantship. An assistantship is a paid academic appointment that involves graduate students employed 10-20 hours per week in a teaching or research capacity. Assistantships are limited and interested students are encouraged to contact their graduate program director.
- The Federal Work-Study program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, allows students to earn money while gaining valuable work experience. Visit the Office of Financial Aid for information on eligibility and requirements.
