UNC and NCCC Articulation Agreement
Comprehensive Articulation Agreement NCCC
The Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) helps students who finish a two‑year Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, or Associate in Engineering degree at a North Carolina community college transfer to a school in the University of North Carolina system as juniors.
If you earn an Associate in Arts, Science, or Engineering degree and complete the General Education Transfer Core, you will be considered to have met Western Carolina University’s lower‑level liberal studies requirements. Most students who transfer with one of these degrees receive 64 semester hours of credit when they are admitted.
If you transfer before finishing the General Education Transfer Core, your credits will be reviewed one course at a time. Courses that were not taken at a North Carolina college or that are not on the approved transfer list will also be evaluated individually.
Transfer of General Education Core Courses Non-Graduates
If a student completes the General Education Core with a grade of C‑ or better in every course, that set of classes transfers as a full block within the North Carolina Community College System and to Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵapp. This is true even if the student has not finished an associate degree.
When students are admitted to Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵapp and have completed the General Education Core with the required number of hours, they will be counted as having met the university’s Liberal Studies requirements, even without an associate degree. To qualify, a student must:
- Have a 2.0 GPA or higher at the time of transfer
- Earn a C‑ or better in all General Education Core courses
If you think you meet these requirements but have not received a Liberal Studies Waiver, please contact the Registrar’s Office.
