The University of North Carolina Board of Governors has unanimously approved the appointment of two new members to the Ƶapp Board of Trustees: Tate Apodaca and Nora Lynn Finch. Additionally, the Board approved the second full terms of chair Casey Cooper and Timothy “Jake” Robinson.
The terms for Apodaca and Finch, as well as the second full terms for Cooper and Robinson, will span from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2029. Apodaca will succeed Bob Roberts, while Finch will take over the seat from Haden Boliek.
Apodaca earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration entrepreneurship from WCU in 2008. During his time at WCU, he served as a peer mentor and assistant to the director of WCU’s Academic Success Programs. Apodaca later worked for Rep. Mark Meadows as a field representative, managing constituent relationships, leading district operations, and collaborating with federal agencies. He played a crucial role in Meadows' congressional campaign as finance director, spearheading fundraising efforts and large-scale voter outreach initiatives.
Currently, Apodaca works alongside his father, Senator Tom Apodaca, at Vista Strategies as a government relations consultant, specializing in legislative strategy, policy, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement.
Finch is a two-time alumna of WCU, holding both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education. Finch lettered in four sports at WCU—basketball, tennis, field hockey, and volleyball—before embarking on a successful coaching career at Wake Forest University, Peace College, and North Carolina State University.
Recognized as a pioneer in women’s sports in North Carolina, Finch spent the latter part of her career as senior associate commissioner for the Atlantic Coast Conference and served on numerous NCAA committees. She is a member of WCU’s Hall of Fame and a recipient of the university’s 1997 Professional Achievement Award. Finch will be inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in May.
