Biography
Dr. Grube is Assistant to the Dean for International Programs and Professor of Health
and Physical Education in the College of Education and Allied Professions at Western
Carolina University. In a more than 35-year career in teaching and learning, with
25 in higher education, he has developed expertise in physical education pedagogy,
classroom management, physical education curriculum, adventure-based learning, and
global and experiential education. He has a provided scholarly presentations and publications
at the state, regional, national and international levels over his career. Dr. Grube
has provided professional service and leadership at the state and national levels
for a variety of professional organizations in health and physical education and in
teacher education. Additionally, he was recognized with the Edgar W. Hooks, Jr. Young
Professional Award and has been recognized as the NC SHAPE College/University Teacher
of the Year on two occasions and the SHAPE America-Southern District College/University
Teacher of the Year as well as the Julian W. Smith Honor Award for significant attainment
in the area of adventure and outdoor education and recreation over an extended period
of time from SHAPE America. Dr. Grube is presently engaged in experiential global
learning via study abroad experiences for his students.
