Biography

Dr. Tiffany Newsome is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership in the Human Services Department at Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵapp. Her work bridges K–12 school leadership, principal preparation, higher education, and emerging technologies, with a particular emphasis on preparing innovative, reflective, and equity-minded educational leaders.<br><br>Dr. Newsome earned her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Cultural Foundations from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, an M.S.A. in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a B.A. in English with minors in Education and American Ethnic Studies from Wake Forest University.<br><br>Before entering higher education, she served as an elementary school principal, assistant principal, middle school administrative intern, and high school English teacher. Prior to joining Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵapp, she served on the faculty at the University of North Texas. Her practitioner experience continues to shape her teaching, scholarship, and commitment to developing school leaders who can navigate complex educational environments with purpose, adaptability, and care.<br><br>Her scholarship focuses on principal preparation and development, artificial intelligence and simulation in educational leadership preparation, Black school leadership, career development and readiness, and the intersections of faith, spirituality, equity, and leadership. Across these areas, Dr. Newsome is particularly interested in how leadership preparation programs can leverage innovation while remaining grounded in ethical practice, human-centered leadership, and the lived experiences of diverse communities.<br>Outside of academia, she enjoys international travel, action movies, singing, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Teaching Interests

Dr. Newsome teaches graduate courses in educational leadership and school administration, including Shaping School Culture—Understanding and influencing school culture based on ethical, legal and political considerations; Instructional Leadership—Build knowledge, skills, competencies for effective instructional leadership; Site Internship I—An administrative internship under supervision of a practicing principal and university faculty. Seminar sessions held concurrently; and School Site Internship II—Administrative internship under supervision of practicing principal and university faculty. Second of two required internships. Seminar sessions held concurrently. Her teaching emphasizes the preparation and development of aspiring school leaders through coursework, applied learning, reflection, and authentic leadership experiences.

Research Interests

Dr. Newsome’s research centers on principal preparation and development, with particular attention to how leadership preparation programs can better prepare aspiring and practicing school leaders for complex educational environments. Her scholarship explores artificial intelligence, AI-enabled simulations, and emerging technologies in educational leadership preparation; Black school leadership and the experiences of Black women in leadership; career development and readiness; and the intersections of faith, spirituality, identity, equity, and leadership. Grounded in social justice and human-centered leadership, her work examines how innovative preparation practices can strengthen leadership learning while honoring diverse identities, lived experiences, and ethical decision-making.
