Biography
Dr. Preethi Krishnan joined the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at Western
Carolina University as an Assistant Professor of Sociology in 2019. She received her
Ph.D. in Sociology from Purdue University in 2019.<br>Her primary areas of interest
for research and teaching include inequality, social movements, development, globalization,
and the state. In her research, she examines state-society dynamics in how people
negotiate inequality. In particular, she studies how state policies influence the
frames people use to interpret unequal access to food and care and how those frames
challenge or adapt to inequality. She has published in <i>The Global South</i>, <i>Current
Sociology</i>, <i>Indian Anthropologist</i>, and <i>Contemporary Perspectives in Family
Research.</i>
