Biography
Dr. Patricia Morse received her MSW and PhD from Tulane University in New Orleans.
She joined the faculty of Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµapp in 2007 and her current academic
rank is Professor in the Department of Social Work. Prior to her tenure at Western
Carolina, Dr Morse was a Professor in the Psychiatry Department at LSU Medical School
in New Orleans, LA for over 30 years. Dr Morse is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker
(LCSW), an educator, and a researcher. As a practicing behavioral health clinician,
she works with interprofessional teams in integrated healthcare. She conducts individual,
family and group psychotherapy with children and adults. Her research has been funded
by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institute of Mental Health
(NIMH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Health Resources
and Services Administration (HRSA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),
National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), and the Substance Abuse
and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). She has conducted studies of male
prostitutes, injection drug users, HIV infected men and women and the children of
HIV infected women and has published widely in the fields of HIV, HCV, medication
adherence, high risk health behavior, trauma, injection drug use and other substance
use. She has served as a national consultant to the Veterans Administration, the Office
of National Drug Control Policy and to numerous public health, mental health and substance
use programs.
