Biography

Prior to coming to WCU, Prof. Merritt taught criminal justice and research methods coursework at Michigan State University and Georgia State University and Introduction to Computers at Cleveland County Community College. She was a police officer in Iowa City, Iowa for two years, a program analyst and grant manager at the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services for eight years, and a consultant for North Carolina Partnership for Children for three years, where she evaluated grant programs. She has been the program director for the Emergency and Disaster Management program at WCU since 2004 and teaches in both the distance education and residential programs.
